Evidence Not Seen

This is the true story of one young American woman's faith as she trusts God for her marriage and her mission in the harsh jungles of New Guinea. She and her husband independently decided to remain on their mission field during WWII knowing the Japanese were advancing. They were eventually captured, separated, and imprisoned -- never to see one another again. Darlene Deibler Rose has been a spiritual hero for young women for decades. She bravely clung to her faith when she lost everything else and even when she literally faced the executioner's sword. In doing so, she strengthened the faith of others around her during her four-year term in a notorious Japanese prison camp. Through a period of solitary confinement, she came to know God as the one who will never leave her and even when she could not "feel" His presence, she understood that faith is the evidence of things not seen. Her faith and courage is inspirational. Her life was a living testimony of the grace of Christ in her life, so much so that the commander of the prison camp took note of it and later repented giving his life to the Lord.

This book has been one of my favorites for years. Darlene was just one young woman, but her faith shines out as an example of true servanthood. She loved the Lord deeply and it shows through the way she wrote this book. I highly recommend it -- especially to other young women!
