Sacred Marriage

God has ordained the institution of marriage. He created the first family. But why did He? What purpose does God have in mind for marriages and married people? This book teaches that marriage is a spiritual discipline designed to draw you into a closer, more intimate relationship with God. It asks, "What if God's primary intent for your marriage isn't to make you happy...but holy? And what if your relationship isn't as much about you and your spouse as it is about you and God?" Gary Thomas speaks frankly about all aspects of marriage and even addresses those who may find themselves in a bad marriage or married to an unbeliever. He demonstrates that every aspect of marriage is an opportunity to learn something about Christ's character. It is firmly based in Scripture and refers again and again to solid Biblical teaching.

Although I was not married when I read it, I found this book incredibly useful. It has been highly instrumental in forming my understanding of a Christian marriage and in bringing me to a clearer understanding of what an intimate relationship with Christ ought to be like. Much of it is also applicable to my every day life as I negotiate relationships with my roommates who are also my partners in Christian ministry. Gary Thomas has been blessed with an amazingly deep insight into the inner workings of a woman's heart; this book is excellent for both men and women. I recommend it for anyone who is married or anyone who desires to be spiritually married to Jesus.
