God's Smuggler
|
The God of the Bible who made blind eyes see was very real to a Dutch factory worker who experienced seeing eyes made blind. Andrew was an angry young man, but God drew him to Himself through a series of events including being injured at war in the Dutch East Indies. Andrew became a man of radical faith who served God's people by transporting Bible illegally to closed-access countries behind the Iron Curtain.
I love the way Brother Andrew describes his journey to faith as well as his training years in missionary school. He truly understood what it is to trust in God and to live as a completely above-board Christian -- he refused to lie on his visa applications even though he was rejected time and again for writing "missionary" under the occupation heading. He played "the Game of the Royal Way" throughout his mission-school years in which he refused to lower himself to a beggar's level when he knew his Father was the King. Many of these principles have stuck with me through the years since I first read God's Smuggler. It is a story of integrity, faith, and trust in God's unfailing provision. It's just as compelling as a spy thriller, but even better because it's a true story!
